1. CVS-
• Start by getting an Extra Care Card! Go into your local CVS, fill out the application, and get that card! You'll want to bring that card with you and scan it every time you shop at CVS. This card will allow you to get a discounted price on certain sale items as well as receive Extra Care Bucks (ECB), or store dollars, back on items specified in their weekly ad. It's important to note that CVS will accept (1) manufacture coupon AND (1) store coupon on the same item! Also, if an item is on sale in the store ad as a "Buy One Get One Free" (BOGO), you may use two manufacturer coupons – one for the item you're getting free and one for the item you're paying for. You may also use a "Buy One Get One Free" manufacturer coupon to get two FREE items when making the purchase. In addition, you may also use Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) to pay for your transaction since they are treated by CVS like a gift card/cash, not like a coupon. Since you can use three types of discounts on a single item, this makes for some great deals each week!!
• Keep an eye on the "Limit" numbers of the sales…For example, if it says “Limit two” then you can only get the specified ECB back two times. After that, you can still get the sale price, but you won’t get any ECB cash back.
• Scan your ECB card at the price scanner machine every time before you start shopping to see if there are any manufacturer coupons you can pair with your store coupon (that spits out of the price scanner machine) to get for FREE!
**Update – As of August 26th, 2010, Walgreens has a Corporate Coupon Policy listed on their web site! Woohoo! Be sure to print it out and take it with you while shopping JUST in case you run into any cashiers or managers who are unfamiliar with their new coupon policy.
• RR = Register Rewards – These are store coupons that print out of the Catalina machine after you make a qualifying purchase of products listed in the weekly ad. You can use these Catalina coupons to buy products in the future, although be sure to read the fine print as there are some limitations. Walgreens allows one manufacturer coupon and one store coupon to be used per item, although there are times when a manufacturer coupon and a store booklet coupon can be combined with the in-ad coupon all on one item. When ordering your coupons, be sure to hand over the manufacturer coupons FIRST, then the store booklet coupons, and then the in-ad coupons LAST to be able to get all possible overage.
Walgreens is a bit tricky because they have a coupon to product ratio policy where you must have the same amount of products as you do manufacturer coupons or Register Rewards. However, store coupons in the local ad as well as store coupon booklets do NOT count towards your coupon to product ratio. For example - if I buy 3 candles that are on sale for $2.99 each with the in-store coupon (have to cut it out to get it for that price – you will only need one in-ad coupon and it will deduct the discount from all 3 candles) AND I have (3) $1 off Glade mfg. coupons from the paper for the candles AND I have a store coupon booklet coupon for $1 off any Glade candle (you will only need one coupon and it will deduct the discount from ALL 3 candles) AND I want to pay with a $3 Register Reward, then I will need to have a "filler" item since I will be wanting to use 4 coupons (the 3 mfg. coupons and the 1 Register Reward) and only have 3 items. Keep in mind that often great filler items are things in the store ad that require the in-ad coupon (like Jell-o on sale 5 for $1 with in-ad coupon = $.20 each. This would make a great filler item since it's low cost and the in-ad coupon does NOT count towards your coupon-product ratio)
• Also, if you used a Register Reward to purchase another of the SAME item that you’re using the RR to buy, it will NOT print out another RR unless it is a “rolling” deal which means it will keep printing over and over, no matter how many times you buy it with the Register Rewards. For example, if Gillette razors are on sale for $8.99 and you get a $4 RR back after purchase..If I want to purchase 2 of these, I'll have to do it in 2 transactions if I want to get $8 RR back for both the razors. Otherwise, it will only print one if I buy them both in one transaction. If I do the first transaction and get back the $4 RR, I can't use it to pay for the 2nd razor or else it won't trigger to print the 2nd Register Reward.
3. TARGET-
Target allows one Target store coupon (also found in Sunday papers) and one manufacturer coupon to be used on the same item!! Always hand over manufacturer coupons first and then store coupons to avoid less "beepage". Also be sure to keep an eye out for the "Free Target Gift Card" deals and scenarios mentioned in the weekly ad…you can pair manufacturer coupons and Target store coupons for those gift card deals to get great bargain$! Target is also notorious for having the red clearance stickers! Keep your eyes peeled out for those stickers and see what coupons you have that can be used on those clearance finds! Target will also price match as long as you bring in the other store ad…be sure to read their price matching policy here! Go here to read more details on Target's coupon policy.
WAL-MART- *updated 1/15/2011* Walmart has announced that they gladly accept competitor store coupons! Be sure to go HERE to read more about ths new update. AND, I received this email from Wal-mart Public Relations regarding this matter…
"There have been some questions about Walmart’s coupon policy and I wanted to offer some additional details. To clarify, Walmart will continue to accept all valid manufacturer and print-at-home internet coupons with a scannable bar code. In addition, Walmart will also match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox).
We apologize for any confusion.
For further details, please see our price match and coupon policies online:
